Texas is calling my name, so in 2020 I want to head back to my roots. Looking for route suggestions from DC to San Antonio/Austin/hill country. I left Texas in 1979 for Oregon and haven’t been back to SA or my grad school at UT since then. I used to live in Pipe Creek in the hill country. I was occupant #50 in that town, but I know I wouldn’t recognize the area at all, now. Anyway, I’m looking for a semi-direct route back to San Antonio that’s scenic and avoids the major cities if I can help it. I used to work at UTHSCSA (which I will be visiting) and am familiar with the San Antonio of yesteryear (45 years ago). After visiting SA and Austin I’ll be heading up through the hill country and back to Oregon.

Any reasonable suggestions welcomed (but, not those that route me through Morocco).

Can you tell I’m anxious ? Is it May, yet ?

We are going as far as Dallas upon return, plan to ride “Tail of dragon” then stop in hot springs area. If your going through on a more southern route -Atlanta traffic is awful so beware. We use RoadsideAmerica.com to find attractions and make routes based on things we like. Safe Travels. I’ll be heading to CA on May 9th! So excited and ready to check off more of my bucket list and support all my military friends.

Thanks for that valuable information! I don’t have an agenda on the way back. Just plan to “follow my nose” as my grandma would put it. I will try that RoadsideAmerica website during my planning. I’ll be starting off in Portland, Oregon, then Seattle (Fallen Hero Cart escort), then Ontario, then DC, then San Antonio, then Austin, then back to Portland. I’ll prob be  a couple of years older when I return home.
