SR Riders, on day 2 at our first fuel stop in the town of Maranda. Ofter refueling we will be staging in the parking lot which has been recently paived. Please have some type of kick stand base to protect the new asphalt paving in the parking lot.

Arizona temperatures in mid May can easily be in the high 90’s. Heck it was 91 here two days ago.If you have never seen the damage that a side stand can do to hot asphalt be aware that it can be severe.

Also as the stand sinks into the asphalt your bike will probably list so far it will fall over. If you plan to use a center stand you will need a lot of help to get the bike out of the holes that it dug..

Thank you for bringing this up as  the owner of that parking lot will not welcome us back next year after he has to have the damage repaired.

I have seen the damage the asphalt has done to the side of a bike from it falling over from hot asphalt giving way.

Buy a metal cover for an electrical box. They measure 4″x4″x 1/16″. cost is $3 or $4. tie a string in one of the screw holes. Make the string long enough to reach your handle bars. That way you won’t forget it, and after you rite your bike you can pull the plate up and store it somewhere.

FYI   In a pinch a crushed soda can will suffice as a kickstand base.  Just make sure you pick it up before leaving.  We don’t want to trash their parking area.

Go to Home Depot and in the flooring department they have free samples of 4×4 flooring. They work great for a kick stand base. Got about 30 for the 7th platoon SR. Use a Casino card bungee to pull it up before you take off and store it in your vest or were ever you like.

Nice job ! I did the same thing: drilled a hole in the puck, but attached one of those coiled lanyards they give you at casinos when you play with a card. Has a snaffle hook on one end which you can attach to your clutch cable. Climb on the bike, detach the hook, lean the bike upright, retrieve the kickstand puck, and stow it for later use.

Thanks for all the work you did on this, Blackie. I made 3, for emergencies.

I get so upset that I cannot be part of it when they announce Kick Stands Up. So I could feel like I am part of this moment I installed a kick stand on my trike. I do get looks from guys when they see my kick stand on my trike. You have to have fun at times and the way I look at it with all the negative things going on in the world today we still have to have a smile today.

See you my friends old an new ones in just a few weeks.

7th Platoon. I am unable to provide kick stand base plates. I made 30 of them however a Forrest fire got them to include my 3 Harleys and the garage. House survived. See every one on 13 or 14th. New bike took a large chunk out of savings
