Good for you Stitch! The spirit of the mission lives on!

I’m enjoying Gunny’s posts on FB of his run.

I wish fair skies and tailwinds for all who are riding.

CR Chase Team 4 will be doing the RFTW Quest next week (Good Lord willing).

    Be Safe and stay healthy.

You are absolutely correct in thinking that places like Gallup, Junction City, etc. may be suffering serious financial loss due to the cancellation of RFTW.

If you are interested in purchasing shirts from the wonderful locations we visit along the way I suggest that you look up the State Coordinator for that area as a starting point. They should be able to put you in contact with the local folks who may need our help.

Maybe the State Coordinators could post that contact info here on the forum and we can all try to help out.

    Just saying.

I second Sloke’s suggestions. We know there are unrecoverable expenses incurred and the 2020 preregistration fees can help with those. And about the 2020 patches I was thinking that I would want to acquire my patch and sew it on upside down as an indicator of my commitment to make the run this year. Either way RFTW 2020 will be a year to remember. If not for the run itself then for the anticipation and disappointment in being thwarted by a bug we cannot see.

In any case, SEMPER GUMBY and IS IT MAY 2021 YET?

Ingrid,  I will say one more thing about the choice to go ahead or to follow the pack. Since 2020 will be your first year, following the pack has a couple of advantages. First, as long as you keep the pack in sight you won’t get lost. The actual route the pack takes may not be the shortest. May not be what your GPS tells you. Second, following the pack and the exact route they take you will get to be at the tail of the parade as the pack exits the highway and you’ll not miss all the wonderful folks who turn out to support the run. I have not ridden a motorcycle on the run. My (4) All The Way runs have always been as a Chase Truck. So I ALWAYS have been behind the pack. I’m not necessarily disagreeing with the other posts here. But I do have a different perspective than a rider IN the pack. That said, on my first run I did take 1 or 2 legs ahead of the pack just so I could get some photos of the whole group and to stop on an overpass to thank the patriots who come out for us. This will be an experience like none other you have ever had, Whatever you do I know that you will enjoy the run, the emotions and yes, the tears. Be sure to keep a box of tissues on the seat next to you. I promise, sooner or later, you will need them.

The itineries should be posted in the next few weeks. You will be given a booklet that includes the itinery at registration for your first day. The booklet has all the details you need. You can look at the RFTW website Midway Route under Run Details for an example. The Midway booklet has been posted already. Going ahead or behind the pack is a personal choice. As a chase truck I am always behind the pack. And really, it’s not so bad back there for a car. Just a little ‘rubber-banding’ from time to time that can be annoying.

I’d like to see some Southern Route Leadership chime in here with their recommendations.

I run a chase truck on Central Route and am usually at the back of the pack. That is where many other non-bikes hang out. The pack is usually in sight but not always. But we do catch up most of the time. It’s all done for safety and it works really well. Just don’t get frustrated with the traffic that sometimes gets piled up back there. Stay calm and all will be well. Oh,  and WELCOME TO THE FAMILY!

Tex,  I was not trying to steal anyones thunder. I’m thinking that with the way registration is going we should try to have this gathering before the end of the year. That way all could be ready to make reservations when the hotel list comes out in January. I attended Len’s gathering last winter and think its a really great idea to try to get the word out to more folks about RFTW. I haven’t seen anything about a meetup this winter so I thought I’s start the ball rolling early. Better to take this conversation to email or phone calls. Please email me at the address in my original post so we can discuss. Let’s put our efforts together and make it happen!

I have stayed at Angel Fire Resort on two different runs. They have always been great. Call the resort for availability.

Along these same lines why doesn’t the volunteer signup form allow for non-cycle vehicle and positions? There are many 4-wheel support vehicles and positions who need to signup as well. Hydration, Registration, Chase trucks to name a few.

I second the thoughts of “The Mayor”. There are literally thousands of volunteers who work tirelessly to make this mission happen and be so successful. The best we, as participants, can do is to always be friendly, cordial and grateful towards all the helpers along the way. Be sure that you say THANK YOU to them and the leadership of the event. This will be my 4th ATW run and I am always astounded at the effort put forth on our behalf. First and foremost REMEMBER THE MISSION. It is for those who serve, past present and future. We must keep the spirit of RFTW alive for future generations.

As a chase truck team we appreciate your support. I hope I NEVER have to have your bike in my trailer. But we are always there if needed. We have had some wonderful folks riding in the back seat and we love you all. We are looking forward to seeing you at the stops. NOT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD! Rest assured, we will be there for you if the need arises.

Dr Z,  My prayers are going up for you, my fellow Marine and RFTW brother. May God keep you safe and bring you back to the run in 2020. Remember that ATTITUDE is everything. And with your POSITIVE ATTITUDE you will prevail.

    Tex,

I plan to be at your meetup Tuesday evening. As this is my 4th year as an All The Way chase truck maybe I can help possible FNGs to feel more comfortable about making the ride. I will also be an escort for the Fallen Hero Cart on the trip to Ontario. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

    IS IT MAY YET?
