I put gas money in an individually labelled envelope for each day’s stops and keep them in my windshield bag for quick access.  I pull one out right after I open my fuel tank, gets you into a routine.  Lot’s happening at those gas stops.

    Hoofer,

Change of plan. I plan to meet up with the Hooligans in Sweetwater for lunch. What time do you expect your arrival?

I’ve given my return route some additional thoughts and here is my plan so far.  Depart DC on the 28th, heading west on I-66 to Fort Royal and the north entrance of the Skyline Drive.   I’ll run south on the Skyline and onto the Blue Ridge Parkway at Waynesboro south to Meadows of Dan.  From there I’m thinking west on 59 to Wytheville and into the Appalachians.  I may spend a day or two in this region, so many great rides (https://www.appalachianbackroads.com/).   That’s it for now.  If you have time and want to join in on this plan please feel free to join the conversation.

These are all great looking rides.  Friend of mine rode the Dragons Tail last summer, said it was a lot of fun.  I was originally planning on riding out of Appalachians into Kentucky but after looking at all these runs I’m going to head south into TN and see how many of these runs I can finish.  Most likely I’d head west after that and home in Oklahoma City.

I was thinking about spending a couple of days riding in Virginia.  I’ve attached some of the routes I’m considering.

Hello, your offer for a bed on our night 3 sounds like a bargain.  I’m camping so by day 3 I’ll certainly need a shower and if possible run a load of cloths in your washer, please?  You can contact me directly at [email protected].

    Jim,

Just looked at the route and it sounds like a great ride.  I believe I will be running Tail Gunner for Platoon 4 so I’m really excited about that.  Still no takers for camping?

Right now I’m thinking about heading southwest through the mountains in Virginia then west into Kentucky towards Lexington via the Daniel Boone National Forest then west to the Shawnee and Mark Twain National Forests in Missouri.  From there I’ll head south into Arkansas then west through the Ozark National Forest and then into Oklahoma and back home to OKC.  This was my first look and the return ride and it may change depending on time and money.  I’m camping and may hotel stay if necessary but staying in hotels is not my plan right now.  If you’re interest in this route you’re more than welcome to join me.

I’m riding MWR Platoon 4. I plan on camping but would like to sleep on a real bed and use of a shower maybe every 3rd day and especially the host hotel in DC.  Would that arrangement work for you?

Stick pins, pencils, stickers are all good handouts. I ride the MWR Platoon 4 and love the people and event stops. I’ve collected about 100 Army lanyards, Navy  stickers, pens, and pencils.  I will share with everyone. You can always head over to your local recruiters and they should be very happy to provide you with some promo items.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>To add to Maverick’s post: the Fuel Team will have flagpersons at each stop.  What at first seems like a free for all, which can be intimidating but then you add to this you’re  riding in close quarters and you’renot sure what’s happening.  Not to worry the fuel team will guide you to the right pump  Have your fuel cap open when you approach the pump and wait for the fueler to hand you the hose.  Have you cash at hand and ready to hand off.  Once finished roll out and follow the flagmen to the staging area where the staging crew will guide you to your space.</p>
