I can always use one.  Loaned mine out to another rider for a long trip( not an RFTW person). Never got it back.

In all seriousness, please or your own sake and for those around you, start now prehydrating and continue it threw out the mission. This is a physically and emotionally demanding ride. You need to be prepared. Look after yourself and your fellow riders around you. Use the buddy system. Each route has medical staff that can help and the road guards will also be watching the pack for folks in trouble. I’m not trying to scare anyone away with this but if you have never been a heat casualty don’t start now.  It sucks to pass out when your standing or sitting  it’s even worse when your moving at road speeds.  If you have been a heat casualty before, you are more susceptible to it. Hydrate!  That’s what the hydration team is there for.. 2 Waters to 1 Gatorade every stop.  Keep a spare on the bike to sip on as you go.  Use a cup holder, camel pack, sports bottle holder, whatever you are comfortable with. Use cool rags, you can swap them out at stops for a fresh one.

I don’t want to see anyone fall out due to dehydration.  Monitor yourself.. when in doubt, drink some more.  We usually stop every 120 miles so potty brakes are available.  And no, I was kidding about the canteen checks and senior Drill PT ing you till you drop.  Well sorta kidding

There are several companies that can handle the move. The first one that comes to mind is Daily Direct in Milwaukee, Wi  their number is 800 Haul Bikes  I can’t remember what their time frame is to get one to Cali but it may be 1-2 weeks  from pickup to delivery

I can see both sides of this.  I can see where the rotation will give platoons in the back a chance to ride up front and I can see where it could be looked at as a demotion for lack of a better term.  My experience on SR has been in the staggered platoons for a couple of reasons. 1) I’m not 100% confident with myself riding side by side due mostly from a lack of exposure to it.  I believe I can however, until such time as I’m 100% I will continue to ride staggered.  2) While i’m working towards that, I ride as tight as I can in staggered platoons in a effort to influence those around me to do the same.  We leave a big footprint out there as it is and 12″ of difference times 300 bikes is about 3 semi’s in footprint that can be avoided.  I also understand the rubber band effect and the effect it has on the riders in the back of the formation.  I have ideas on that but will reserve comment for another time.

I’m willing to give the rotation approach a try.  It’s not set in stone that it will be this way from here forward so its just in a trial phase.  I don’t believe it is intended to  be disparaging to the folks that ride in the side by side platoons, but an attempt to give people a chance to ride up front.  Something that the trikes and trailers don’t have a chance to do

    Bird,

I’m in the same boat on the southern route. 15 was my FNG year, wanted to go ATW but my son was graduating with his Masters degree and I was Layed off from the oil field so I joined up in Grand Prairie, Tx.  16, bad year finance and health wise, only rode 2 days. This year, finances are worse and I lost 3 brothers in arms but, because of the losses and having gotten a roommate I’m going all the way. The bills will have to wait. I owe it to Jesse, John John and Shaggy to go ATW.

So here is my challenge to you. We both commit to going ATW. We plan save scrape and do whatever it takes to do it and we meet in Ontario Tuesday morning  before the run in the host hotel.

If I may, premium fuel is all they pump on the run. At least on southern route. Figure fuel cost at 2.50 – 2.75 a gallon possible more as oil and fuel prices continue to move

Thanks for the heads up y’all. Have been trolling eBay and have run across a maybe.  The one I found is listed as used but now sure just how much used. It looks almost new but if the previous owner was twice my weight and size then it may not do me any good

I’m also gonna check with Wiskey River HD now Texarkana HD and see if my parts guy can hook me up
