Steven, I used a Harley branded wired headset.  I also tried charging it at lunch as you do but still had issues late in the evening, thus, the wired set.

Even tried plugging the Sena into a small battery pack to keep it charged but the Sena would not operate when in the charging mode (sometimes it would and others it would not).

    Is it May yet?

I also use a Sena (20S) and a Freewire when riding locally with friends.  However, it did not work well on the run last May.  First, it would not stay charged all day (like Gonzo) and, second, I did not like the way Sena prioritizes what gets through to you.  For example:  if I am paired with another rider for intercom use the intercom takes priority over the CB.  You can hear the CB very faintly but I often missed it.  Ended up unpairing it from other riders to ensure I heard the CB.  In the end I purchased a wired headset and swapped the Sena out until the ride was completed.

Made reservations at Angel Fire Resort today.  They do have discounts if you ask for “brick laying”.  Still quite a bit higher than last year though.

Myself and two others from Madras, OR plan to leave here August 27th or 28th and arrive on the 1st of September.

Are group rates established at Angel Fire Resort or other hotels yet?  Anything we need to tell them when making reservations (group rate code or??)?

    Thanks,

If I remember correctly (again) what was used in 2019 was a web based system with a link from the RFTW website.  Not 100% sure though.

I can easily download an app that would allow those I choose to follow me but I do not leave my phone on all the time (I don’t want to be bothered by phone calls while riding). Thus that is not an option for me.

FNG in 2019 – nearly every stop we made through California, Arizona and New Mexico someone went down due to lack of hydration.  As both Doc and Pelican say, drink up!!

Queb, is the ground plate still under the liner?

When I replaced my cable I purchased (custom) cables from Field Components to run one cable to the rear of the seat with a male/female junction followed by a short lead to the antenna and the ground plate.  That allows me to remove the tour pack if needed.   Wish I could find the invoice with part numbers but must have thrown it away.

Not enough time for you to get new cables at this point but if/when you do you only need to worry about the connector on the CB end and get that one right – I think it is a TNC.

You will need a good ground plate for whatever you decide.  My ’19 Ultra came with a ground plate in the bottom of the tour pack but I was very disappointed with the stock antenna cable running from the front faring to the trunk.  Could not get the SWR low enough for me.  Ended up replacing all the antenna wiring and got great SWR.

I don’t think the tour packs have changed much so you may have the ground plate in the tour pack already.  Antenna wire may also be there.  My ride did not come with CB but I had it added – pretty much plug and play with a re-flash of the boom box.

Does yours have an antenna hole on both sides of the tour pack?

Tex, I have done both in the RV but prefer to stay on either US12 or US2 if going or coming from Minneapolis.  Lesser traveled and many small towns to see and explore.  I guess if your in a hurry 90 or 94 but I hate freeways!

Three of us from Madras will be returning on one of the secondary roads (perhaps US20 then up to Cody)  to do Bear Tooth so will probably hit one of the slabs for a short spell.

You doing the cart this year?

Governor’s latest shutdown prevents us from having this event.  If/when the shutdown ends we will consider rescheduling.
