Highway, God Bless You and your entire family for your service and sacrifices.

Today I gave a heads up to the Midway  trike platoon, APL, (we ride in the same So.Nevada PGR unit), as to any assistance you may need, anywhere, along the route. But in any case, you will not be at a loss for helping hands from your new family, that you never knew you had! Also, you do know, that as an FNG, you will be riding into Arlington National Cemetery on Saturday morning. If your son can make it, he can ride with you….assistance will not be an issue, I assure you.

Look at the “Contacts” list for Midway, give the trike platoon, Platoon Leader a heads up.

Ride safe, is it May yet?

Road Hazard is correct, many have relatives or friends in the area that they stay with. You do not have to stay at the host hotels.

When the itinerary is posted online, be sure to read the schedule for Ontario. There is usually a mandatory “all riders” meeting Tuesday afternoon.

Enjoy your visit with your son Highway, encourage him to join us when his schedule allows.

Welcome to RFTW Rockee. and to the greatest family you never knew you had, and Welcome home, and Welcome to Midway Route. You are doing well getting your ducks in order early. Do not be afraid to ask questions, no matter how trivial you make think it is, you can be assured someone else is probably wondering the same thing. Be sure to start getting yourself and your ride ready also. You will hear this often…hydrate-hydrate-hydrate, it does not matter what the weather is for the day you need to stay hydrated and your body needs to be prepared. Pack, unpack, re-pack, unpack…. do this several times, eliminating something each time…you will probably still pack “stuff” you won’t use. (There are WalMarts at or near many of our overnight stops to restock)

Colorado also has a monthly lunch get together, attend those if you can, besides fun, you will meet the greatest group of individuals you could ever imagine.

Yes, 2019 will be the last year of Rolling Thunder in Washington D.C. on Memorial weekend.

This information is obtained from the R.T. website, Presidents message located on page 8. The paragraph covering this news is quoted below:

    “PRESIDENT JOE BEAN:
The conference in DC was excellent. We had classes this year for Media, and Flags/Signs/Chairs. Received many compliments fro
    m the
    Chapters. The back s
eats were full with general membership, and we had 290 attend the dinner. Announced was that this year, 2019 will be our last
    Memorial Day
weekend in DC. The decision had to be made due to the exorbitant cost and the difficulty the Pentagon Police have bee
n giving us. We will now proceed with State Runs
on the Sunday of Memorial Day all across the country. The representatives are not in DC Memorial Day weekend and home in thei
r respective districts. We could make
a bigger impact nationally by demonstrating
in our respective States. Our sponsors will continue to back us. Harley Davidson is behind us, and the Nam Knights are with
us. The Bike raffle will continue as well. There is a new owner of the Fort Washington Harley store and he is working to turn
    that s
tore around. We are working out the
details for 2020 for State Runs, and NJ, NY, and PA may have a combined Run. The second annual Freedom Farm Festival is comin
g up in April. An email will be sent
out with details on motels available, please book your roo
    m now if attending.”

For some reason the .com of the above link does not copy to the web address when you click on the link.

I do not know how to correct this, believe me I have tried.

If you click on the link as shown above you will not get the intended web site. Instead eliminate the backslash after the last word in the address link and replace it with   .com !

If someone can fix it, it would be greatly appreciated. ( In the past it was a simple task of editing your own post….that seems to have changed! For those of us who are not real techno savvy , this makes frustration very easily achieved, and a strong reluctance to not post again.)

    John,

WELCOME, you will be accepted into the greatest family you never knew you had. Be ready to be hugged every day, by big burly, small petite, and every size and shape in between complete strangers, who from that moment on are no longer strangers.

As has been said, there are many who do the Run who are not veterans. I am not a veteran. My FNG year was 2013, for several years leading up to it I had the same serious concerns you are expressing. For some reason I went, alone, to a RFTW meet and greet in So. Calif. that invited one and all to come and find out what this thing the Run is about. It was pretty intimidating riding up to a rather large group veterans who all watched as I pulled up. ( Like who is this guy & what is he doing here?) As I was dismounting one large lanky fella left the crowd and walked up to me asking if he could help me. I told him who I was and why I was there. ( Did I mention this was an overnight camping BBQ, in the hills outside of Julian, Ca.) He IMMEDIATELY gave me a huge hug, and WELCOME, then all these “intimidating” biker veteran strangers and the wives / girlfriends all came up to give me a huge hug and WELCOME. The rest of the story became history around the campfire that night. That 1st hug was given to me by a brother called Sidewalk, followed by, Sidewinder, Coyote Guts, Infidel and so many more that I apologize for, but cannot remember their names. The Run’s effects are hard to explain. It hits you emotionally and physiologically when you don’t expect it and you find it hard to explain to others, but those around you understand.

I was classified 1A in October 1968, received my draft noticed in November. Was reclassified 1Y after my physical. I was told it was because of my lifelong history of asthma. ( I still have my draft registration & classification cards) I didn’t feel I had any right to be in the company of those that had served, I still carry that guilt that occasionally resurfaces. This Mission is a healing one!! For all veterans, non veterans, families, loved ones and anyone who cares. All that is asked is that attitudes be left at home & support the Mission.

I too, consider it an Honor & Privilege  to be a part of this Great Group of Hero’s.

Jimmy, Welcome to the greatest family you never knew you had.

Welcome Home & Thank You for Your Service.

I agree. The water on a clean windshield (or painted surface) plus on the static decal works fantastic. I have one on the tailgate of my pickup applied in this manner. It has not moved thru car wash brushes, touchless car washes and high school hand car washes. I also have one on the windshield of my bike. It seems after they completely dry in the sun, those suckers adhere like nobodies business. But I have mine on the inside of the windshield. The 1st year I had it on the outside it stayed on great, but then I went through a “herd” of flying locust….needless to say, there wasn’t much left of it after. If you install the static cling on the road, just wet the back and the surface its to be applied to with a wet washcloth or paper towel. ( Space can be limited for a spray bottle on a long road trip)

See You in May.      Ride Safe

Good tips , all of them..

I would like to mention, there should be an advance riders course offered somewhere close by before we depart Ontario. Locate one being offered close to your location online and sign up! It is well worth it. The Ride Like A Pro course,(RLAP), is also fantastic, but not offered as prolifically as the Advanced courses. It is also more expensive, even wit a RFTW discount, if offered.

    But…..( there is always a but…)

You can order a RLAP video. With it you get a booklet of the course layouts with diagrams and dimensions. You can then set up your own course. ( I use red solo cups with some water poured in them. A gallon of water goes a long way. The cups are easily replaceable plus water & cups are very economical) Invite some riding buddies or even solo, you will have fun and can practice as many times and for as long as you want.

    Practice – Practice _ Practice
