Southern Route Hub

Welcome to the Southern Route

Since the Run’s inception in 1989, participation grew steadily as more veterans and patriots learned of the Mission. By 1999, registration numbers had increased to the point that they posed legitimate safety concerns, leaving the Board of Directors with two options: limit participation or create a second, simultaneous Run.

Unwilling to exclude anyone from this healing experience, the Board chose to establish an additional route, giving rise to the Southern Route. A reconnaissance of the new route, led by Phil Wright, was conducted in 2000, and the first full-scale Southern Route Run followed in 2001. At that time, the original Run For The Wall® group was renamed the Central Route, reflecting its path through the central United States.
